2009 Women's Eastern Amateur  Championship
Stoney Creek at Wintergreen

Nellysford, Va.

 June 10, 11 and 12, 2009

Isabelle Lendl wins the 98th Women’s Eastern
At Wintergreen Resort’s Stoney Creek Golf Club

WINTERGREEN, Virginia (June 12, 2009) … Game, Set and Match… would have been the call… except we are talking about golf.  Isabelle Lendl closed out her fellow competitors with a final round 2 under par 70.  Brittany Altomare and Kristina Wong shared runner up honors with a score of 216.

Isabelle Lendl finished her week with rounds of 67-75-70 – 212 (4 under par).  The junior all-American, dominated the back nine with a 3 under par 33.  Tournament golf can turn quickly and the 98th Women’s Eastern was no exception.  Kristina Wong had a three shot lead after her birdie on the 10th; however, after Isabelle made birdie on the 12t the lead was cut to two.  The very next hole came the pivotal turn of the tide as Isabelle followed up with another birdie while Kristina three putted for bogey.  Stepping up to the long par 14th all over water Isabelle laser guided her tee shot to within 12 feet while Kristina’s tee shot found the water grave.  After this change of events the engraver was cutting Isabelle Lendl’s name on the oldest women’s amateur championship.

Isabelle’s week started out with a course record 67 and ended with a place in the history book.  Asked where she will be attending college – her father quickly replied “Florida…” the Lendl family is just waiting on who will be named the next head coach.

University of Virginia had a strong showing at the 98th Women’s Amateur with Brittany Altomare, a rising freshman, finished Runner up and Elizabeth Brightwell, another rising freshman, finishing T8.  Kim Llewellyn the Women’s Head Golf Coach for UVA coming off the university’s best golf season is loading her war chest with some outstanding recruits.

The Stoney Creek Golf Club received rave reviews from the nationally ranked Women’s amateurs.  They complemented the Director of Golf Course Maintenance Fred Biggers and his crew for an outstanding venue and course conditions along with the rest of the Professional Staff for their organizational prowess.
