Executive Committee

Six members of the Metropolitan, Philadelphia and Boston Women’s Golf Associations incorporated the Women’s Eastern Golf Association (WEGA) in 1906. The three Associations had been playing Inter-City Team Matches since 1902 and developed an interest to conduct an individual stroke play competition. A Championship was formed and the inaugural event was held in 1906 at Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove, New York.

Charlotte Balick

Wilmington, DE

Char joined WEGA in 1982,  She has served as Secretary, Vice President and President.  She is a member of the Women’s Golf Association of Philadelphia and was a member of the Executive Committee.  She is currently a captain of the WGAP course rating team.  Char was a member of the Griscom Cup.

She has been runner-up in the Philadelphia Championship twice and was Senior Champion and Super Senior Champion.  She is also a member of the Delaware Women’s Golf Association and has been their Amateur Champion six times, Senior Champion seven times and Super Senior Champion.

She was inducted into the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.  Char resides in Delaware and has a son Donald, and a daughter, Bonnie and four grandchildren.

Doris Bennett

York, North Carolina

Doris Joined WEGA in 2009.  A lifelong resident of New Jersey, she moved to South Carolina in 2008.  While in New Jersey, Doris was a member of Raritan Valley Country Club from 1991 – 2008 and served in various capacities for the RVCC Women’s Golf Association.

Doris was a member of the Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association from 1995 – 2008 and the Garden State Women’s Golf Association from 2003 – 2008.  She served as Treasurer of the WMGA from 2003 – 2007, as well as Treasurer of the WMGA Scholarship Foundation from 2003 – 2008.

Doris was also a member of the New Jersey Women’s Golf Association from 2001 – 2009.  Doris currently is a member of Rock Hill Country Club and joined the Charlotte Women’s District Golf Association in 2009.  Doris has been active as a course rater since 1997 and, representing WEGA, currently serves on the USGA Regional Associations Committee.

Anne Gannon

Wellesley, MA

Anne was invited to join the WEGA Executive Committee in 2010.  Anne was the 2003 WEGA Amateur Champion.  WEGA is honored to have Anne as a member of the Executive Committee.

After attempting the Futures Tour in 2004, Anne took a break from competitive golf to complete her Masters Degree in Accounting and became a Certified Public Accountant in 2009. Anne returned to competitive golf in Massachusetts, and balanced playing golf and an accounting career in Boston until the birth of her son James in 2012.

Carol Haas

Wilmington, DE

Carol joined the WEGA Board in 2006.  Carol retired from the DuPont Company in 2004 after 30 years in technical management.  She is a member of the Delaware and Philadelphia Women’s Golf Associations.

Carol is a member of DuPont Country Club where she served on the Board  and chaired the Golf Committee.  She is a member of the USGA Women’s Mid Amateur Championship Committee.  She serves as a member of the Rules Committee for the US Women’s Open and the US Women’s Amateur Championships.

Carol lives in Wilmington, Delaware with her cat.  Carol also serves on the Board of Ursinus College where she received her undergraduate degree.  

Susan Podolsky

Alexandria, VA
Vice President

Susan joined the Executive Committee in 2011.  She is an attorney in Alexandria, Virginia with her own law practice that specializes in commercial litigation.

She is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Virginia Law School.

​Susan is an avid amateur golfer who competes in tournaments around the country and in Canada.

She is a member of Mount Vernon Country Club in Virginia and the Detroit Golf Club in Michigan.

Cathy Reusche

Aiken SC

Cathy joined the WEGA Executive Committee in 2013.  She also serves on the United States Women’s Mid-Amateur Committee and is a Past President of the Women’s District of Columbia Golf Association.

Cathy, originally from Akron, Ohio,  holds a B. S. degree in Education from Kent State University.

She resides in Aiken, S.C. with her husband Mike.  They have one son and daughter-in-law and two grandsons.

Carole Rich

Aiken SC

Carole joined the Executive Committee in 2016.  She is a native of Virginia and a graduate of Roanoke College in Salem, VA.  After a 30-year career with the Hershey Company, Carole retired in 2012 as Vice President of Manufacturing.

Carole was a member of Lebanon Country Club in Pennsylvania for 16 years.

She served on the Board of Governors and as President of the Women’s Golf Association.  In 2013, Carole relocated to Aiken, S.C. and is currently President of the Women’s Golf Association at the Reserve Club.

Sarah Robertson

Nellysford, VA

Sarah retired from public education in 2003, having taught health, physical education and special education. She served as the supervisor of special education and at the time of retirement was a high school administrator.

Sarah was a member of Springfield Country Club in Springfield, VA for over 20 years before moving to Wintergreen Resort in Nellysford, VA in 2004. She was an active member of the Ladies Golf Association at Springfield prior to her move. While at Springfield she served on the Rules Committee, chaired the ladies handicap committee and chaired the club handicap committee. She also served on the major tournament committee and the golf committee. She was a member of the Women’s District of Columbia Golf Association where she served as a division team play captain.

Since moving to Wintergreen, Sarah has served as the ladies golf chair, handicap committee member and chair. She has also served on the golf committee. Sarah is currently the President of the Virginia State Golf Association-Women’s Division.

Shelley Savage

Alexandria, VA

Shelley served 26 years on active duty in the Navy Nurse Corps, retiring from the Navy in 2003 at the rank of Captain.  She continues her nursing career as a Staff RN in Outpatient Surgery at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington.  She served as President of the Virginia State Golf Association – Women’s Division in 2006 – 2007 and Vice President in 2004 – 2005.  Shelley also served as the 1996 and 1997 Captain of the Virginias Team during the annual Virginia / Carolinas Team Matches.  

An accomplished golfer, Shelley won the 2006 WEGA Senior Championship.  Other recent titles include the 2005, 2012 and 2013 Virginia Senior Women’s Amateur Match Play Championship; the 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2011 Virginia Senior Stroke Play Championship; the 1992, 2005 – 2007 and 2009 – 2011 Women’s District of Columbia Golf Association (WDCGA) Championship; and the 2007 – 2008 WDCGA Senior Championship.

Shelley, a native of Trenton, Michigan, holds a Master of Science degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing from the University of Michigan.

Jan Sutherland

Danville, VA

Jan joined WEGA in 2001.  Jan is a member of the Virginia State Golf Association and the WGA at Danville Golf Club.  She is a Past President of the VSGA-WD and served on the board for eight years.  She is also Past President of the WGA at Danville Golf Club.

In 2001, Jan became the first woman to be elected to the Board of Directors for the Virginia State Golf Association.  She also served on the Board of the VSGA Golf Foundation.  Among her many golf achievements, Jan has won twenty-three club championships at Danville Golf Club.  Jan resides in Virginia with her husband Jim.  They have three daughters and six grandchildren.
